Great-grandparents of Rebecca Margaret Jones Hart, parents of Mary Elizabeth Duncan Lomax
Left to right: David Duncan II (1791-1881), Matilda Virginia Lomax Jones, Alice Amanda Needler Piemont Duncan (1806—29 Nov 1875), Alice Amanda Lomax Wallace. When Mary Elizabeth Duncan Lomax died in Abbeville County, SC, in 1851, her husband Lucien Hargrave Lomax took the two little girls to Virginia to live with their grand-parents. Three years later, when Wofford College in Spartanburg opened, David Duncan obtained a position as professor of Latin and Greek and moved to South Carolina so the little girls could be near their father, who would live with them much of the time.
Above: markers of David Duncan and Alice Amanda Needler Piemont Duncan in the cemetery by the old railroad station on Magnolia Street in Spartanburg, SC.
Left: marker of Elizabeth C. Piemont Taliaferro (Aunt Tollie). Above left: Amanda Piemont Duncan. Above right: David Duncan.
